Personnel
Managing Director - Mark McKay

Mark commenced McKay Drilling in January 1990 when he purchased a Schramm T450W, which he operated. Although the drilling industry was in a slump at the time, he was able to maintain the rig in constant work.

Through his efforts and forethought he built upon these early beginnings with tireless enthusiasm. The company grew to a two rig operation in 1992, three rigs in 1994 and in 1997 began a five rig operation and building to ten rigs in recent years. Not only did the fleet of rigs increase but, Mark ensured that new support equipment and new technologies were integrated into the business.

He also built a strong and dedicated team of experienced personnel around him to ensure that the business grew into a professional organisation with strong leadership.

His hands-on involvement of all aspects of the business has enabled the company to remain a leader in the industry.

Without his efforts, advancements within the industry would not have occurred for some time. These advancements, which include the Automated Rod Handler and Breakouts, were only brought to the industry through his involvement.

Mark started his drilling career when he joined Stanley Mining Services (SMS) in 1981 coming from a farming background. He quickly became one of SMS's most experienced and reliable drillers. He was placed in the role of Operations Supervisor with SMS managing a fleet of six rigs. It was a natural progression for Mark to commence his own company having such drive and dedication to the industry from his early beginnings.
