Clontarf Wadjemup Cup

On Thursday 31st October McKay Drilling were invited to the annual Clontarf Wadjemup Cup, which seen over 100 Clontarf Academy students from around Western Australia participate in a round-robin AFL football competition.

Travelling from all around Western Australia, as far north as Carnarvon and as far southeast as Esperance, students in Year 8 and 9 competed in the carnival to determine the winner of the coveted Wadjemup Cup for 2024.

Hosted on Wadjemup / Rottnest Island, it was an early start for attendees to catch the ferry over from Fremantle. The perfect weather provided the best opportunity for the young men of Clontarf to showcase their skills whilst having lots of fun.

Did you know? Rottnest Island has a long history. Wadjemup has been an important place for Aboriginal people for a long time, but it wasn’t always an island. Before the last ice age, over 6,500 years ago, the land that we know as Wadjemup was connected to the mainland and was used by Whadjuk people for cultural purposes.
